Questions
- Is anything I type sent anywhere?
- No. Every calculator here runs in the page itself. There is no server that receives your date of birth, your loan or anything else, and you can check it in your browser's network tab: using a tool produces no request carrying what you typed.
- Why is 20% then 10% not 30% off?
- Because the second discount comes off what the first one already reduced, not off the original price. 20% off 100 is 80; 10% off 80 is 72; so together they take 28 off, not 30. The tool shows the effective percentage so you can see it.
- Does it round the way a till does?
- It works in whole pennies or cents and rounds once, to the nearest unit, so the amount you pay and the amount you save always add back up to the original price.
- Which currency does it use?
- Whichever you pick. It only changes how the result is written; the arithmetic is the same. Indian numbering, which groups as 1,00,000, is handled for the rupee.
- Can I use it for tax as well?
- Use the VAT tool for tax. A discount comes off a price; a tax is added to or taken out of one, which is a different sum and has its own page here.
