VAT and GST
Add tax to a price that does not include it yet, or pull the tax back out of a total that already does. It shows the net, the tax and the gross, all three.
Extracting is the half people get wrong: the tax inside a tax-inclusive price is not the rate times the total. At 20%, the tax in 120 is 20, not 24, and the tool spells that out.
VAT or GST, as a percentage.

Questions
- Is anything I type sent anywhere?
- No. Every calculator here runs in the page itself. There is no server that receives your date of birth, your loan or anything else, and you can check it in your browser's network tab: using a tool produces no request carrying what you typed.
- How do I find the tax inside a total?
- Choose "take tax out of a gross price". The tax is the gross divided by one plus the rate, subtracted from the gross, which is not the same as the rate times the gross. At 20% the tax in 120 is 20, leaving a net of 100.
- Is this for VAT or GST?
- Both. They are the same kind of tax under different names, added as a percentage of the price, so the sum is identical. Set the rate to whatever applies where you are.
- What rate should I use?
- Whatever your country charges. Common VAT rates run from about 5% to 27%; GST varies too. The tool does not assume one, so type the rate that applies.
- Do the three figures always add up?
- Yes. It rounds once and derives the third figure by subtraction, so net plus tax always equals gross to the penny.
