Questions
- Is anything I type sent anywhere?
- No. Every calculator here runs in the page itself. There is no server that receives your date of birth, your loan or anything else, and you can check it in your browser's network tab: using a tool produces no request carrying what you typed.
- Can I mix metric and imperial?
- Yes. Each field has its own unit, so a distance in miles works with fuel use in litres per 100 km and a price per litre, or any other combination. The conversions happen for you.
- What is the difference between US and imperial mpg?
- The gallon. A US gallon is about 3.79 litres and an imperial one about 4.55, so the same car is rated a higher mpg number in imperial. Pick the one your figure is quoted in, and the tool converts correctly.
- How is the per-person cost worked out?
- The total fuel cost divided by the number of people, rounded to the nearest unit. It is the fuel only; tolls, parking and wear are not in it.
- Is the litres figure exact?
- It is as exact as the fuel-use figure you give, which is usually an average. The cost is worked out from the unrounded litres and rounded once, so the litres shown and the total never look a penny apart.
